“If the wiring is OK, you might want to change the security codes on the opener and remote. Maybe a neighbor somehow is activating your door. I have heard that even some radio transmissions, such as from airplanes, can also activate garage door openers… or is that just another “urban myth”?

Otherwise, my next guess would be that one of the circuit boards within the opener is defective, and will need replacement.”

That’s a great question is it an urban myth or is it actually true that your garage door motor can actually be activated by an airplane over head. I have always known that these anomalies do not exist with the rolling code technology but only with the single frequency opener models. Like the good old California Crusader…..

Here is what my research drummed up from the top quotes online on the subject…

“Most of this stuff is all BS. Yes the airplanes did sometimes cause problems on remote control systems designed before 1975. So if you have a “digital” system you are safe. All GENIE type openers use to come from the factory set all the same and if you were lame enough not to put in your own code well you may have problems. “

The coolest doors I have ever seen are stainless steel garage doors although the doors are unatainable for most, they definatley will give you bragging rights….

It is very easy for an appointment setter to claim that they can install a garage door for $499.00 on the phone

yet after setting up an appointment with the home owners they use the typical “ohhhh thats just for the door”

technique. Then there will be additional fee’s to haul away your old door, stop moulding, windows, ect.,.

The problem is they are selling it and homeowners are buying it… look anything less then $745.00 for a new door is

just going to be garbage. Depending on where a person lives the home value ranges in the

hundreds-of-thousands of dollars. But yet a people generally do not want to pay around $1000.00

for a nice solid steal back garage door. Even though it is quieter, lasts longer, and is altogether a nicer

product. Secondly the garage door covers about 30% of the front of most homes and is the first thing a

person looks at when they pull up to the house. It is just amazing that people would not be willing to pay a

few hundred dollars more to get a good product. Even at $700.00 a person gets a garage door that will

simply fold in half under the slightest wind loading so just imagine what a six or five hundred dollar garage door would be like.

The garage door encyclopedia is a compilation of information about all things having to do with garage doors

Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race.—Diderot[2]

Likewise, the purpose of the garage door encyclopedia is to act as one volume of information on the branch of knowledge compiled over the ages on garage doors.
